Robert Loss is the author of Nothing Has Been Done Before: Seeking the New in 21st-Century American Popular Music (Bloomsbury Academic). His writing about the intersections of culture, politics, and aesthetics in American popular music has appeared in Los Angeles Review of Books, Public Books, Cleveland Review of Books, Ghettoblaster, and PopMatters. His writing about comics has appeared in the International Journal of Comics Art, The Comics Grid, and The Comics Journal. His fiction has been published in MAYDAY and 2 Bridges Review among others.

He has presented at numerous academic conferences including the Prince from MPLS conference (University of Minnesota), Curating Resistance: Punk as Archival Method (UCLA), the annual conference of the International Association for the Study of Popular Music (Nashville), and various comics studies conferences.

Loss is an associate professor in the Writing, Literature, and Philosophy department at the Columbus College of Art and Design (CCAD). He also teaches in the Comics and Narrative Practice major. He has been playing music since the mid-1990s as a solo act, in The Wells, and in his current band, Blind Engineer. He lives in Columbus, Ohio with his wife and their cat.
